A Different Kind of Elimination Diet

If you’ve taken an interest in diet and exercise (which I’m assuming you have since you’re reading this), you may be familiar with an elimination diet.  If not, or if familiar in name only, an ED is a diet where you eliminate certain foods for a period of time and slowly reintroduce them, monitoring your body for reactions or symptoms. The best ED will eliminate the greatest amount of food.  The more restrictive the better.  If you suffer from gastrointestinal discomfort or issues, an ED […]

Have a Plan, Will Travel

My kids’ summer break is about half over.  And although we’ve nothing big planned as far as summer vacations go, I’m sure we’ll end up traveling somewhere for some time. More than likely you’ll be taking a trip (or five) this summer as well, whether it’s for business or pleasure.  Often when we take a holiday (keeping it international) our exercise and nutrition habits take a holiday, too.  The thing is though, our habits (and, ultimately, our outcomes) inevitably book a trip to where we intended them […]

Fame and Fat Loss: Good and Bad

Fame has now become a career choice.  Gone are the days of children dreaming of becoming teachers, police officers, doctors, astronauts, or actors.  Then now dream of becoming famous. Admittedly, […]

The Perfect Day

My family and I recently visited some of our extended family in the western suburbs of Chicago.  My wife and I took our three children downtown Chicago as a surprise.  Jumping forward to the end of the day, as we were returning to our hotel, I was thinking about our day and the uncanny resemblance it shared with my fitness journey.  If you have your own fitness journey, I bet you can empathize.  If you’ve not yet begun yours (perhaps waiting for the new year, […]

When I Was a Kid

I’m writing today in defense of kids everywhere. I’m defending them from adults who criticize them for not riding their bikes everywhere; for not staying out and playing until the street lights come on; for sitting around watching television and playing video games; and for spending countless hours texting their friends and updating their “status”. And most of all, I wanna defend them from listening to an adult say, “When I was a kid, I would [fill in the blank].” That’s great that when you […]

Television Rots Your Body

I used to be a big entertainment guy.  I enjoyed watching [a lot of] TV and movies.  But now, not so much.  I was thinking of why that is. Parents might say it’s because I have three kids.  (Thank you for thinking more of me as a father than is warranted.)  Business owners, workaholics, and overachievers might say it’s because I’ve got a business to grow and run.  (I’d like to think I “hustle” like that.)  “Others” might say it’s because it’s a waste of […]
